Manager, PAC and Advocacy Practice
Public Affairs Council

Location: USA – Washington, DC

Description –

Are you someone who:

  • Likes to be in-the-know about what best-in-class PAC and grassroots programs are doing?
  • Wants to help the public affairs community advance their political involvement programs?
  • Values executive education and events to support individuals with their professional development and networking?
  • Colleagues would describe as a team-oriented self-starter, networker and problem-solver?

If so, you may be the thought leader and coach we’re looking for to serve as our next expert on PACs, campaign finance, advocacy, and political involvement program management.

We are looking for a mid-level, rising leader with direct PAC, political fundraising, and/or advocacy management experience to join an entrepreneurial and dedicated team who work together to enhance the value and professionalism of the public affairs industry through high-value executive education, member engagement and customer service.

Successful candidates understand and are passionate about PACs and advocacy, love to answer questions and want to work in a fast-paced, non-partisan environment. Rather than fundraising or advocating directly, you will draw on your own expertise and the deep knowledge you gain from the member community to coach and train others on best practices and trends in political engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Be an expert and a thought leader. You will establish yourself internally and externally as the go-to information resource on best practices and cutting-edge tactics related to PACs, campaign finance and grassroots advocacy program management.
  • Help members solve their problems and build world-class programs. Members rely on the expertise of the Public Affairs Council to establish, reinvigorate, and elevate their political involvement programs. Your job is to be accessible and responsive to member counseling requests in your areas of expertise.
  • Provide industry-leading professional development and executive education programs by translating your own expertise, knowledge of industry trends and an awareness of what political involvement professionals need into innovative conferences, workshops, webinars and resources. This includes, but is not limited to, the Council’s annual National PAC Conference, the country’s largest gathering of PAC and campaign finance professionals.
  • Elevate and promote the Council’s rapidly growing Certificate in PAC & Grassroots Management as a high-value industry certificate that delivers ROI to the recipient and host organizations.
  • Be the hub of a vibrant member community by promoting networking and idea-sharing among public affairs professionals through the Council’s growing and active 750+ member Political Involvement Network.
  • Be smart and share your insights with others.
    • We look to managers to create original content (written, visual, data-based…) that can be leveraged on both digital and traditional communication platforms to demonstrate expertise and thought leadership.
    • You will be encouraged to write tip sheets, news alerts, presentations, white papers and similar documents that help the PAC and advocacy communities gain industry insights.
    • Managers are also called upon to advance the practice of political engagement by developing customized training programs, engaging in targeted consulting projects and delivering frequent speeches within the community.
  • Always be learning and growing professionally. Managers are expected to broaden and deepen their expertise and contact base to include all areas of public affairs, providing insight on integrated public affairs and assisting team members with their events and member services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • Direct experience with PAC, campaign finance and/or grassroots advocacy. Additional familiarity with corporate and/or association broad-based public affairs a plus.
  • Must have outstanding communication skills in both public speaking and written communications that demonstrate a commitment to providing a high level of customer service. Experience with event planning and marketing is a plus.
  • Comfort with and/or experience in an environment that includes revenue- and participation-based goals.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, balance many projects at one time, and meet deadlines and objectives with limited direct supervision or administrative assistance.
  • A commitment to excellence and an ability to demonstrate sound judgment and leadership, often without complete information.
  • Program management, event planning and/or consulting experience.
  • This person must wholeheartedly be a team player committed to achieving not only individual goals but also team and Council-wide goals.
