International Program Intern
Public Affairs Council

Location: USA – Washington, DC

Description –

To support the Public Affairs Council staff in all international public affairs practice activities, including research, marketing, member relations, communications, developing educational materials and conference planning for Council members. Reports to the Council’s head of international programs and vice president.

Length Of Service

Varied — flexible based on intern schedule. Interns serve approximately 25-30 hours per week.

Job Functions

May include, but not limited to:

  • Research on international public affairs, organizations, issues, legal guidelines, trends, case studies, political agendas, public policy issues and regional events
  • Assisting the staff in marketing efforts for conferences, publications, resources and services
  • Managing the Council’s resource library, to include requesting additional resources, cataloging information and compiling lists of materials
  • Researching and updating existing materials on issues relevant to international public affairs professionals across a wide variety of industries and geographies
  • Assisting in meeting planning and attending area conferences and events
  • Working with member contacts to facilitate benefits and services
  • Database and office administration work as needed

Qualifications/Skill Sets


  • Professional demeanor/superior business etiquette
  • Communications skills: must have excellent written and oral skills (will have interaction with business leaders and other professionals)
  • Research skills and resourcefulness required to find needed information
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Good time management
  • Ability to multitask
  • Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel experience

Optional skills:

  • Previous office/corporate experience
  • Meeting/event planning
  • Editing
  • Phone experience/member relations
  • Political and/or public policy knowledge or experience
  • Area of regional expertise (i.e. Europe, Latin America, Asia, Eurasia)

Educational Requirements

  • Must be a current student in good standing or a recent graduate. Both undergraduate and graduate-level applicants are welcome.
  • Concentrations of study may include political science, international affairs, social science, pre-law, marketing, business, communications, journalism or a related field
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
